The Journey Begins

Thanks for waiting!

I have been taking the Creativity Course, “4 Forward” with the amazing Andrea Brett. (I will figure out how to link her contact/class info as soon as I can.) I’ve taken a longer course with her and it was amazing! What you are creating doesn’t have to be in a specific category like art or writing. You can even take her courses if you aren’t really sure what to do but you definitely feel the pull to create. You will come away inspired and lifted by the wisdom she and the other talented people in her class share every week.

This last week we read about four inspiring people. Michelangelo, Julia Child, Fred Rogers, and Dolly Parton. I learned many things that I didn’t know about them and they all inspired me to finally create this post.

Michelangelo taught me to not be afraid of taking on something new that I don’t know much about. Did you know that when he was commissioned to paint the Sistine Chapel he really didn’t know much about painting? He had already spent years learning about the human boday and used that knowledge to sculpt beautiful, timeless works of art like David and the Pieta. He brought that knowledge with him and applied it to painting. This is what inspired me to be brave enough to just start. I know a little bit about writing, crafting, and a few other creative things so I will bring them with me to create this blog. If you have some time, check out more information on Michelangelo. He was truly impressive!

Julia Child reminded me that it is never too late to start something new.

Mr. Rogers inspired me to know what I am creating and who I’m creating it for and although I was always creeped out by his puppets I did love that he looked into the camera and spoke as though he was speaking directly to me. (Unlike the Romper Room lady. She never saw me, It was always little Jimmy or Katy. Of course, Johanna doesn’t come up much. Especially when you are looking for a personalized license plate for your bike.) Mr. Rogers was warm and endearing. I hope I can create that in this little space of mine.

Dolly was just bigger than life but always sweet and remembered her roots. She knew what she wanted and she went after it. Best of all, she used her fame to help others. My grandson receives a book every month from her Imagination Library and that’s one of the best gifts I can think of!

Are you a creator? Do you feel the need to make or do something that feeds your soul and nourishes others? Figure out what it is and go for it!

Now, for a little transperancy. I am also trying to get this published before my last class starts in 3 minutes so I’m going to leave this here for now. Keep checking though. I promise it won’t be another 8 years before I write again!
